40+ Students in the Park Spreading Mulch

On Monday, June 8th, about 40+ kids from the Enviornmental & Adventure School (AES) on Finn Hill spread mulch in the park.  The mulch pile was about 6 feet high and covered two parking spaces.  The students formed a bucket brigate down the steps and into the park to move the mulch.  It is gone.  The area they mulched is a very sunny clearing of about 3000 ft under restoration.  It was formed by the previous landowner who cut the trees to heat their home.  Over 30 years a considerable amount of trees went up in smoke.  During the last three years, work parties removed the blackberries four times, planted trees, shrubs and ground cover.  We mulched last October around each of the 300+ plants.  Monday’s workparty mulched the entire area to prevent blackberry regrowth.  The mulch will help new native plants survive our hot summer. Thanks AES!
