On Sunday afternoon Nov 10, Jan Johnson and I labeled plants with orange pin flags and placed them where they will be planted. These plants are going in the restoration area we cleared of ivy during the summer months. A significant amount of ivy was cleared out of the understory along the west loop trail. There is a high water table here with a boggy seep. The August work party had a tough time pulling ivy from the muck and from around thick Salmon Berry (Rubus spectabilis) and Indian Plum (Oemleria cerasiformis.) 196 native plants were ordered for this area. We planted half the plants during the October work party. It will be nice to wrap up.
Jan constructed a list of “The Native Plants that Bind Soil.” This is a really good list of native plants to use for stabilizing a slope after removing invasive plants such as Himalayan Blackberry (Rubus armeniacus) or English ivy (Hedera helix.)
