Super Ivy Pulling WorkParty July 27

To all the neighbors who helped pull ivy on Saturday – the park trees  THANK YOU. What a wonderful opportunity to meet new neighbors, work together and give back to the park. Thank you Plaza Garcia for donating a big box of Sopapillas. We spent about 2 hours in area 02 of the park. You can see the area on the “Juanita Heights Park Restoration Management Units Map.” Eleven of us pulled approximately 1700 feet of ivy.

Collins Klemm from the Green Kirkland Partnership was invaluable. He helped us build a huge ivy compost raft about10 x 10 feet. He showed us how to roll up the ivy like a carpet. We worked in pairs. One person started rolling the ivy off the forest floor while another person snipped the vines. We were amazed at how much ivy we were able to remove in about 2 hours. The ivy compost piles are big. Take a walk in the park and see for yourself!  Next ivy pull is Saturday, August 31. Hubby and I had a wonderful time getting to know our new neighbors and helping out at the park today. I was impressed with how much we all accomplished in a short amount of time. Hope to see more neighbors there on August 31st.
